Discussion: Atlanta Braves Minor League Recap: Drew Waters had a big day down on the farm

Sunday was a great day to watch the Braves organization, from the big league club dismantling the Indians on Sunday Night Baseball to wins at the highest levels of the minor leagues that featured noteworthy events from prominent names.Of course with it being Easter, we also had a shortened day on the farm, as both Florida and Rome had the day off.Gwinnett Braves 7, Durham Bulls 6Box ScoreAustin Riley, 3B 1-4, R, .602 OPSAlex Jackson, C 1-4, HR, 2 RBI, .616 OPSRyan LaMarre, CF 3-4, 2B, R, .933 OPSMike Foltynewicz, SP 5.1 IP, 7 H, 6 ER, 2 BB, 2 KMike Foltynewicz got the rehab start against Durham, and it wasn his best outing. Folty lasted five and a third as he gave up six runs on seven hits and a pair of walks while striking out two. With two and a third scoreless innings Andres Santiago was able to earn the win, as the Stripers survived the rough outing by Folty. Thomas Burrows picked up the save by going an inning and a third to close this one out.The Stripers were playing catch up almost the whole way, and a pair of two run homers by Alex Jackson and Adam Duvall played a large role in the victory https://www.bravesgearfansstore.com/Jeff_Burroughs_Jersey-67. However the real star at the plate was Ryan LaMarre, who went three for four with a double, and was the only player to have a multi-hit game. Austin Riley ended up going one for four and scoring a run in the win.Probable Starter 4 22 - OFFMississippi Braves 7, Montgomery BiscuitsBox ScoreDrew Waters https://www.bravesgearfansstore.com/Bryse_Wilson_Jersey-58, CF 3-5, HR, 2 2B, 3 RBI, BB, 2 R, .904 OPSRay-Patrick Didder, SS 2-4, 2B, RBI, .563 OPSJoey Wentz, SP 5.2 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, 4 BB, 3 K, 2.57 ERA Nothing above tells you what really happened in this game, and it was one of the most unusual games of the season- a game I not sure can be explained. First of all that 7-6 score in 10 innings doesn tell you that this game was 3-3 after nine innings and that Montgomery scored three runs in the top of the tenth, only for the M-Braves to strike back with four in the bottom of the tenth and steal the win. Nor does it explain what went on with Joey Wentz, which will be discussed below.Wentz gave up three runs over five and two thirds innings as he allowed four hits and four walks, while striking out three. That looks like a solid, but not great line- but Wentz is known for his command and for limiting home runs. Going into this season Wentz allowed seven homers in 242 career innings of work. Yesterday he gave up three solo shots in five and two thirds innings. As if that not strange enough, the guy known for his command and limiting walks threw 47 of his 93 pitches for strikes https://www.bravesgearfansstore.com/Jason_Hursh_Jersey-34, meaning he threw 46 balls on the day. You can judge a pitcher on one game, but to say this was a bizarre outing for Wentz is the only way to describe this one.Wentz was relieved by Jordan Harrison, who went two and a third scoreless innings, giving up three hits during that span. Josh Graham pitched a scoreless ninth, then appeared to be ready to take the loss after giving up three runs- only one earned- before the Mississippi offense was able to hand him the win. This already strange game gets just a little stranger, considering the offensive outburst happened with Cristian Pache getting the day off. Drew Waters was the big star of the day, going three for five with his first Double A home run, as well as his eighth and ninth doubles of the season. Waters also walked, scored twice, and batted in three runs on the day to go along with an outfield assist, as he threw a runner out at third base https://www.bravesgearfansstore.com/Phil_Niekro_Jersey-24. We saw multi-hit games from Alejandro Salazar, as well as Ray-Patrick Didder- who grabbed his first double of the season in the win. Garrison Schwartz and Ryan Casteel each added singles and both walked twice, and deserve mention for reaching base three times apiece.
